The game begins in 1745, when Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite Rebellion have eliminated King George II from the English throne. In the resulting chaos, loyalties are divided and consciences piqued - for there is no royal on the Throne for the first time in 800 years. And any man may be king.
In the meantime, Society goes on for the peerage. The season from Easter to August is a time of balls and masquerades, teas and courting; in the lesser ranks, the poor scurry for their bread while the slums of London breed gamblers, thieves, muggers, whores, pimps and assassins.
